If job offers at #museumsbund are indicative of the future of researchers in museums & curators, it& #39;ll be filled with one #Volontariat after the other for years to come. https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="đŸ€”" title="Denkendes Gesicht" aria-label="Emoji: Denkendes Gesicht">

As most people know by now, the #Volontariat doesn& #39;t guarantee a continuity as full-waged researcher in a museum, but what does is to underpay motivated scholars long enough for them to be exhausted by the museum system (ca. 2000 Euro before tax).

The #Volontariat system in #Germany runs for 2 years after which no guarantees are made to keep the scholar at the museum or to find her/him better employment elsewhere. People are being chewed & spat out & it& #39;s not changing.

So where does this leave museum work, considering we& #39;re in a pandemic?
How can museums protect & support young scholars at their most fragile when the global situation is so uncertain?
What kind of a future are public institutions setting up emerging curators for? https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="đŸ€”" title="Denkendes Gesicht" aria-label="Emoji: Denkendes Gesicht">

These are the questions we need to be askinghttps://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😒" title="Unerfreutes Gesicht" aria-label="Emoji: Unerfreutes Gesicht">

Throughout the pandemic, I& #39;ve come across no discussion abt changing the #Volontariat system in this country or at least re-thinking it under more equitable terms yet the #pandemic is framed by some as an opportunity to grow.

5/
For me, the job prospects in museums for the coming years are looking catastrophic with one #Volontariat after the other, I& #39;m sad to say.
So museums want great research during & after the pandemic, but what are they doing today to ensure that researchers as humans can thrive?
