THREAD: District attorneys are the most powerful figures in the criminal legal system - so let& #39;s talk about them.

DA& #39;s decide which cases to prosecute and what charges to bring against the accused. If we want to fix the gross racial disparities in this system, we need to start at the source. That& #39;s why we launched the What a Difference a DA Makes campaign in 2017. http://dadifference.org"> http://dadifference.org
4 years later, we’re still doing that work across the state.

In Hampden County, we just filed a lawsuit calling for an investigation into the Springfield PD’s violent misconduct, as well as the DA’s failure to examine and disclose that conduct: https://www.aclum.org/en/cases/graham-et-al-v-district-attorney-hampden-county">https://www.aclum.org/en/cases/...
In Plymouth County, we filed lawsuit after the district attorney’s office tried to charge us $1 million dollars to fulfill a routine public records request. This absurd demand represents an affront to government transparency. It’s also illegal. https://twitter.com/ACLU_Mass/status/1370021956339306496?s=20">https://twitter.com/ACLU_Mass...
No matter where you live, district attorneys have an enormous effect on your community. They have a responsibility to see that justice is administered in a fair and equitable way.

We& #39;ll continue to hold them accountable to that responsibility.
