The show is hyper focused on the
conversations and relationship dynamics between the crew and Lena so I’m interested to see what will be gained during these following episodes. I’m going to try and piece together what I’ve picked up on so far.

The field commander Shin (reaper) and his crew and those like them are all considered subhuman, and their quality of life is significantly lower, but they live a more honest lifestyle by making the most of it. Eating real food, playing games, and enjoying the company of others.
While the people in the walls have a more “unnatural” lifestyle. They eat synthetic processed foods and
live in relative comfort. Most of them being extremely unaware of the circumstances and true history surrounding the republic of sam magnolia and its conflict with the legion.

There are blatant indications of racial and societal tensions. Need to see how that plays into the larger canvass of the story. Everything setup stressing the dynamics of Lena, 86, and the republic has been integral to establishing the story thus far. It’s moving at a great pace.
Lena attempts to show kindness and treat the 86 like actual human beings, but to the 86 it’s just another “handler” whose oblivious to the actual real hardships they experience. Even more so in Lena’s circumstances, she’s a representation of “false hopes” and hypocrisy to them.
Her rationalization behind thinking she is making their lives somewhat better by not treating them like shit; comes from an experience we learn she had when she was saved on the battlefield. This experience is what separates her from most of her peers & also what motivates her.
In this scene we see Lena’s world view becomes directly challenged. While the 86 are out on the battlefield dying, she is sitting safely in a chair. "Who are you to act like our savior?” That realistically, there isn& #39;t much she can do to save them other than reduce how many die.
The 86 are blaming her for reasons that are mostly out for her control in this scene but it does put in perspective that if Lena truly intends to help, she can’t half ass what’s she been attempting to do. It also highlights the dichotomy between them and what it actually means to
to fail, as she makes an attempt to gain an “understanding” between them. By default they view it as disdainful, that she hasn’t actually met them or experienced what they have, given they live in two completely different “worlds”.
Glad they& #39;re focusing on the character elements & inner emotional turmoil & treat these aspects with considerable consistency & attention. There relationship is what I want to see develop the most. Her having to win them over and prove to them beyond the capacity of being kind.
It’s was stated that she& #39;s the youngest person to make Major. Something that requires consistent achievement and results. I am interested to see her prior experience brought to light in her backstory. As well as Shin’s, whose witnessed the death of many of his friends.
