MHA& #39;s Power System
A Thread: Quirks in Battle
Will be talking about the manga and up coming Season 5
Quirks are superpowers that everyone is born with. They range from powerful, flashy to super mundane and totally useless. This establishes one of the main thematic ideas of the story: Inequality
These quirks are unique to everyone, and it helps everyone to distinguish themselves from everyone else. People& #39;s quirks are a part of someone& #39;s identity, either reflecting who they are, or sometimes directly influencing the individual
Quirks are a part of characterization, and it is the foundation of the world building. There are plenty of videos explaining this way more in-depth than me like this one

I">https://youtu.be/wF8m4EAnw... want to discuss quirks themselves and how quirks are when using them
But to get stronger, you need your quirk to get worn down which means they have a limit of some sort

Something no one brings us is how Hori balances the power system. Every quirk has some kind of limit or/and weakness. Physical or mental
Whether it be something like Bakugo& #39;s strain on his hands or even Mineta& #39;s scalp bleeding, there is always some limit. It could go from Endeavor& #39;s overheating to Manga getting a sore throat from overuse of his quirk
So they train to overcome these limits, and learn new ways to apply them. The application of a quirk can greatly enhance what a person can do. It can make Mineta& #39;s Pop Off quirk make him go from a hero who prioritizes making your opponent immobile to actually fighting them
This gives fights a layer of depth since it doesn& #39;t necessarily come down to who has a stronger quirk, but also who can find the most creative ways to use their quirk in battle which people tend to ignore
Even if you have a really good quirk say something like Overhaul& #39;s, due to it needing something to touch, all you need is to get him up in the air, or disable his arms or hands. Ochako surprisingly counters him, but even she needs to touch something in order for it to be useful-
since she has also a powerful and deadly quirk (demonstrated by Toga in MVA)
This gives way for more unexpected match ups
Look at Shoto during JT. Has a powerful quirk, but gets countered by someone who the majority thought was a weaker version of Kirishima https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😂" title="Gesicht mit FreudentrĂ€nen" aria-label="Emoji: Gesicht mit FreudentrĂ€nen">https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😂" title="Gesicht mit FreudentrĂ€nen" aria-label="Emoji: Gesicht mit FreudentrĂ€nen">
Application of one& #39;s quirk is one way to make a person stronger, and sometimes we have things that mentally block us. Quirks aren& #39;t just muscles, but mental abilities aswell which could impact how your-
quirk works. There are plenty of mental barriers people face and our character are the same. Think of how Shoto remembered who he wanted to be for the first time or Twice and Shigaraki facing their past trauma
With Shiggy, he went through a quirk awakening. A quirk awakening is a process of a quirk getting stronger by evolving and unlocking new powers or subsets of powers previously locked which was introduced in MVA. This happens usually when under life or death situations.
With quirk awakenings, this leads to our characters getting powerups. This is explained by the quirk doomsday theory that states that more generations go on, the more quirks will evolve, mix, and get stronger, so this doesn& #39;t feel out of place, but more of the next natural step
TLDR; Quirks have limits to them, no matter how strong. Even with a powerful quirk, you could easily be defeated still depending on the match up. They& #39;re like muscles that get stronger after you wear them down, but also the way you think of them-
could affect what it can do. Quirk awakenings allows our characters to grow and change into respectable threats.

If you read all this... uhh thank you very much and I hope I was able to make you see quirks a little bit differently. Have a wonderful rest of your day https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😊" title="LĂ€chelndes Gesicht mit lĂ€chelnden Augen" aria-label="Emoji: LĂ€chelndes Gesicht mit lĂ€chelnden Augen">https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😊" title="LĂ€chelndes Gesicht mit lĂ€chelnden Augen" aria-label="Emoji: LĂ€chelndes Gesicht mit lĂ€chelnden Augen">
P.S. There is also a whole entire aspects of quirks relating to how establishes the characters, characterization, and world building that I mentioned earlier, but that& #39;s whole entirely different thread. I just wanted to specify quirks literally. Maybe one day I& #39;ll do this thread
Anyway goodbye now https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😂" title="Gesicht mit FreudentrĂ€nen" aria-label="Emoji: Gesicht mit FreudentrĂ€nen">https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😂" title="Gesicht mit FreudentrĂ€nen" aria-label="Emoji: Gesicht mit FreudentrĂ€nen">
