It is infuriating that the NC Senate is debating on keeping the tax on expenses from PPP.

NC wants to skim $600M of COVID RELIEF FUNDING meant to keep people employed. 47 states have already nixed this.

What& #39;s worse is that small business basically acted as the state& #39;s unemployment office. Instead of laying people off, the funding was sent to the businesses to keep people on the payroll.

Now the state wants their pound of flesh.

Think about the small restaurateur. They faced enormous challenges, accepted PPP, and paid their people until they couldn& #39;t make ends meet any longer and closed their doors. The money is gone. The business is gone.

And now NC wants to tax expenses incurred staying open.

Last point: NC is in fantastic fiscal shape. We& #39;ve done all the right things to make sure we don& #39;t bludgeon the people during downturns or crises.

This is one of those moments where you can& #39;t expect small businesses to take it on the chin again.

This needs to end.
