This is the first discourse I& #39;m reading upon waking up?? I& #39;m going back to sleep https://twitter.com/AskAKorean/status/1381390534862893057">https://twitter.com/AskAKorea...
Love to know we& #39;ll always be stuck between being accused of assimilating/being white washed or being accused of feeding into white ppl & #39;s Orientalist fantasies no matter what we do
This doesn& #39;t support your claim that Asian Americans want to dress in our traditional clothes bc of Orientalism. It just means there isn& #39;t good access to high quality hanbok in DC https://twitter.com/AskAKorean/status/1381394682593345539?s=19">https://twitter.com/AskAKorea...
And at this point you& #39;re just making vast generalizations https://twitter.com/AskAKorean/status/1381397091918962689?s=19">https://twitter.com/AskAKorea...
I really hate this thread. I& #39;ve wanted to wear 旗袍 for years because I felt so disconnected from my Chineseness and I was struggling with my gender expression when I was in college. I wanted to look like MY MOM. Not a white man& #39;s fantasy.
I& #39;m also literally most well known in academia for writing about Asian drag queens wearing Asian costumes https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="🤣" title="Lachend auf dem Boden rollen" aria-label="Emoji: Lachend auf dem Boden rollen"> and my argument is much more complicated than "they& #39;re self-orientalizing."
