90& #39;s Bollywood loved Dr. Alban& #39;s 1992 dance hit "It& #39;s My Life". Why shouldn& #39;t they, it is built for the clubs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zHm_6AQ7CY">https://www.youtube.com/watch...
It was sampled in no less than three tracks, two of those sounding for the most part like a cover rather than an original song.
This one& #39;s the most blatant of them all, by Jatin-Lalit. The music video is simply terrible, not linking it here lol. Mixed opinions about the track, it has a few good elements. https://www.whosampled.com/sample/161355/Arun-Bakshi-Poornima-Bali-Haari-Dr.-Alban-It%27s-My-Life/">https://www.whosampled.com/sample/16...
Then there& #39;s Bappi Lahiri& #39;s rendition which takes a little less from the original. https://www.whosampled.com/sample/763903/Bappi-Lahiri-Vinod-Rathod-Kavita-Krishnamurthy-Gali-Gali-Mein-Pani-Hai-Dr.-Alban-It%27s-My-Life/">https://www.whosampled.com/sample/76...
How can we talk about heavy sampling from international hits and not mention Anu Malik? This one was quite subtle and he sampled just the main riff though. https://www.whosampled.com/sample/772147/Anu-Malik-Devang-Patel-Meri-Marzi-Dr.-Alban-It%27s-My-Life/">https://www.whosampled.com/sample/77...
It surprises me that these producers chose to sample "It& #39;s My Life", claim it to be original work (I& #39;m assuming) even though it heavily featured in two Bollywood films (two that I know of). It was featured in Baazigar and Suhaag.
Baazigar at least was a big hit, everyone would& #39;ve made the connection.
The entire sum of knowledge of all contributors on WhoSampled tell us that only eight songs have sampled "It& #39;s My Life". Eight that we know of. Three of them are from Bollywood, and there& #39;s also a fourth, which is a cover of "Meri Marzi".
So clearly Bollywood has had an interest in this song that hasn& #39;t been witnessed anywhere else. I said eight in the previous tweet but it says seven on the site, because my king Bally Sagoo also sampled it, but that submission is pending approval. End of thread.
