So, here’s a thread on a few things I think CAN help to elevate Black Women in society in the next decade: https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="👩🏾‍🦱" title="Woman, curly haired (durchschnittlich dunkler Hautton)" aria-label="Emoji: Woman, curly haired (durchschnittlich dunkler Hautton)">https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="👩🏾" title="Frau (durchschnittlich dunkler Hautton)" aria-label="Emoji: Frau (durchschnittlich dunkler Hautton)">https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="👩🏿‍🏫" title="Woman teacher (dunkler Hautton)" aria-label="Emoji: Woman teacher (dunkler Hautton)">https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="👩🏿‍⚕️" title="Woman health worker (dunkler Hautton)" aria-label="Emoji: Woman health worker (dunkler Hautton)">https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="👩🏾‍💻" title="Woman technologist (durchschnittlich dunkler Hautton)" aria-label="Emoji: Woman technologist (durchschnittlich dunkler Hautton)">https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="👩🏾‍💼" title="Woman office worker (durchschnittlich dunkler Hautton)" aria-label="Emoji: Woman office worker (durchschnittlich dunkler Hautton)">
1. Firstly, money makes the world go round. It is imperative that BW start to go into field that make lots of MONEY. All of that “follow your heart” & “money doesn’t bring happiness” & “find your passion” stuff is played out. We tried that, it hasn’t worked, so now what?
Having a high yielding job can alleviate sooo many of the issue Black Women face. In order for us as a community to increase our home ownership, graduation rates, wealth, lifespan, we need to become educated and make MONEY. Now, college isn’t for everyone, I get that. But there
tons of careers that will allow you to make 6 figures and up. Air traffic controllers, real estate brokers, electricians, etc are jobs that don’t require a degree. Now yes, it’s still going to take a lot of work to learn how to do that job but what did you expect? They’re not
Going to pay you $100,000 to sit around and do nothing. We have to stop living in a fairy tale world by thinking we can just do ONLY what we WANT / what makes us happy to support ourselves. Do you think every Indian Doctor, engineer, tech person wants to do that? Probably not.
But that have a certain lifestyle that their community expects them to live, AND they have their own dreams and families to support. So BW, we have to start bunkering down and finding careers that will bring in well above middle class if possible. In my mind, no Black Women
Should be making less than $70,000. That may sound outrageous to some, but we’ve tried the other methods and they don’t work. Money makes dreams work and come true! Not hope, passion, love, kindness, thoughtfulness, being pretty, etc. get your sh*t together ladieshttps://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😂" title="Gesicht mit Freudentränen" aria-label="Emoji: Gesicht mit Freudentränen">
2. Black Women need to learn how to manage their finances. A lot of us make money that would provide a comfortable living, but we squander it away. We are over-gluttonous when it comes to weave, shoes, clothes, and food. That should be ironed out in your own individual lives.
In the Hispanic community (from what I’ve noticed in my home town) they budget and save and work hard to move up the ladder. They have multiple generations staying under one roof until they get enough to buy a house, then another house, then a better car, etc. Their kids don’t
wear the newest shoes all of the time and have the newest iPhones. Especially for the ones who don’t have as many generations who’ve been in America. We need to take a page out of their book and learn to be better with all of this money we’re about to/ currently make.
Dave Ramsey is who I LOVE to listen too. I also follow ‘thebrokeblackgirl’ on insta and FB because they post so many tips meant for just us. Find a saving method that works for you and start using that method now. It doesn’t matter how much you can save it invest, what matters
is that you learn how to use all of these tools to your benefit. Saving money can help pay for: advancing your degree, buying a house, upgrading your business, sending your kid(s) to a better school, traveling the world, upgrading to a more sophisticated wardrobe, etc
Black Women spend over a trillion a year on hair and hair products. We have the money, we just don’t know how to use it to elevate our demographic into a better life. Most people live from paycheck to paycheck but make enough that they don’t have to. It ends with YOU!
3. It would be wise for Black Women to ONLY support things that benefit them. Wether it be businesses, movies, music, politician, etc. We can’t have multiple facets of Black Women supporting any and everything. It’ll take time for us to become unified but those of us onboard
should start by withdrawing support from things that aren’t in our best image. Just like white folks did that that ‘Cuties’ movie, we need to do with Rappers that downgrade us, movies that show us in evil lights, politicians that say one thing then do another.
4. I’ve said this time and time again, but we have got to get in shape. I think some of the reason why we don’t care about being healthy is because we rarely see healthy versions of ourselves promoted. We’ll change that in due time, but for right now start making small changes.
There’s so much free info out there. Dedicate 2 days a week if that all you can do to excessive, slowly phase out soda and juice, eat one meatless meal a day, eat one vegan meal a day, whatever you will work for you. Make a feasible goal and stick to it, even if it’s small.
For me, my first small goal was eliminating sodas and pork. I’ve done that and I haven’t had any of either since August. It was a small change but it impacted me in other ways. Find a youtube excessive regimen, look up a healthier diet and go!https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="☺️" title="Lächelndes Gesicht" aria-label="Emoji: Lächelndes Gesicht">
5. Lastly (for now), start reading books and listening to music that uplifts you. All of us could stand to read more for sure. It doesn’t have to even be educational, just pick up a book and go. Listen to music that isn’t so vulgar to help improve your mindset and image of
yourself. Hearing men call you b*tch and ho* all day isn’t going to help you. Hearing women rap about sex all day isn’t making you more desired or valuable. All of this does the opposite. Out positively into yourself. Listen to clean version of your favorite hip hop song.
Add, in some music that’s from another genre. Don’t constantly listen to violent music that preaches about death and fucking. It’s not good for your mind.
That’s the end. This was a long thread and if you’ve made it this far, Thanks! These are my own opinions.
