A THREAD of THREADS on Debate II & HBCUs. I& #39;m frustrated because Kristen Welker asked a very specific question about what the candidates would say to Black & Brown parents who have to give "The Talk." Here is her question: 1/
Anytime Trump is asked about race, he says the same things: criminal justice/prison reform (never explains), opportunity zones (name checks Tim Scott every time), and HBCUs. 2/
Here& #39;s my quick @ddale8 fact check: 1. HBCU presidents didn& #39;t go to his office 3 years in a row (& 2017 was a photo opp, not a meeting- remember Kellyanne?); 2. We had 10 year funding for 1 program under Obama; 3. Same amount, not more; 4. 1 program did not save HBCUs. 3/
Here are several threads. A PLATINUM THREAD: When President Trump launched his Platinum Plan in Atlanta, he spent a few minutes discussing HBCUs. 4/ https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1309945786139062280.html">https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/13...
A THREAD watching the #RNC2020: 5/ https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1298441919807315968.html">https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/12...
A THREAD: As a response to charges of racism, supporters of President Trump offer several defenses. 6/ https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1284940536361684995.html">https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/12...
A THREAD: For the past few weeks HBCUs have been mentioned by folks with little to no understanding of them, as a proxy for President& #39;s widespread support of African Americans. 7/ https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1273061631191396353.html">https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/12...
And the last one, the Herman Cain Memorial Thread: This is an interesting op-ed by @kenblackwell & @THEHermanCain Lots of HBCU mentions in Tulsa. I& #39;d like to footnote their piece to clarify some of their HBCU talking points. 8/8 https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1273777590302658563.html">https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/12...
