A healthcare system that isn’t based on humanity Not just clinical outcomes , isn’t worth having
I will be many tweeting this today &Concerns brought to my attention
We must always give support to patients , relatives & staff
No critic of staff , but systems they work in
I am very concerned at lack of flexibility around draconian rules that prohibit relative contact with dying distressed relatives
Whilst Johnson is encouraging cinema visits , patients are dying alone , we must be able to be flexible & manage this safely , for everyone’s sake
Obviously patients & relatives are at https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="❤️" title="Rotes Herz" aria-label="Emoji: Rotes Herz"> of healthcare but we can’t ignore impact of prohibiting contact is having on staff & impossible position this puts them in , relatives & healthcare workers emotional support needs seem to barely considered , who is talking about them ?
Having spent my early nursing career in palliative care , where it was fundamental that nursing care didn’t end when patients died , https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="🔑" title="Schlüssel" aria-label="Emoji: Schlüssel"> work in supporting relatives , I’m https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😥" title="Enttäuschtes, aber erleichtertes Gesicht" aria-label="Emoji: Enttäuschtes, aber erleichtertes Gesicht">to see that owing to less staff , focus on clinical tasks , this has been eroded , even fear amongst nurses
Are they allowed to contact relatives ?
Especially in current crisis How can relatives & staff get any kind of closure if they can’t at least have some time or space to grieve together , to support beyond death
We must urgently talk ,what is going on right now & find solutions
Pl see add to this thread ,RT if you are effected by these issues , either staff or relatives , we need to draw attention to those that have power to make changes
Also to support each other in this time and show our compassion
