The other point that seals the deal is: game dev is ~~sexy~~

People would love to work on Witcher 3 or GTAV. How many want to manage a prod deployment for a bank? (Way less)

As long as there& #39;s a line out the door of people who& #39;d do your job for less, crunch will exist. https://twitter.com/TheIndigoGaming/status/1311523094880759808">https://twitter.com/TheIndigo...
This is also why silicon valley companies operate the way you do.

When people are lining up in the thousands to work at Google, having a 60-70-80 hour/week pace as baseline becomes inevitable. For the same reason: a horde of people who are willing to do more work for less pay.
Supply and Demand isn& #39;t some mathematical approximation that economists cook up. It& #39;s what determines the value of something, regardless of the economic abstraction you& #39;re operating in.

It holds for a serf serving a feudal lord, or a hunter/gatherer bartering over beads.
It holds for a central committee planning a communist economy, and it holds for a restaurant owner shopping at a fish market in a free market economy.

It& #39;s a brute fact. Like gravity or evolution. You don& #39;t have a choice in whether it exists. Only in how you respond to it.
