So last week we went to @homeaffairsZA to go inquire about setting a date to officiate our union. We stood in that long queue for about 6hours before getting assisted(which is the norm here in Welkom).
When we got to the front of the line we were sent to the official that works with ho nyadisa batho and she helped the man and woman pick a date, verified that neither one of them were married and proceeded to put their names down in the appointment book.
She gets to us and "notices" that we& #39;re both female and tells us that we& #39;d have to wait for the lady who works with Civil Unions. So she calls someone in the office to find out when this lady would be available and they tell her that she only comes in once a week on Tuesdays.
She takes our ID& #39;s and goes to copy and do the same verification process she did with the couple before us. Then she tells us to put our numbers down so that the Civil Union lady can call us when she& #39;s in.
So at this point I& #39;m angry because I don& #39;t understand the need for such inefficiency. I mean marriage is marriage right and why is there only one person who is trained ka Civil Union? And now we have to pray that she comes in to work the following Tuesday and calls us.
Okay cool we leave. Fast forward to today. Baby wakes up and says "Nana I think we should go to town and see if we won& #39;t get this lady today". Cool, we get to @homeaffairsZA and the security guard goes in to check if she& #39;s in and he let& #39;s us in to go see her.
We get there and she& #39;s already being rude to the guy in front of us and telling him to move from her work station as she doesn& #39;t work with the things he wants. We approach her work station I sit down and tell her why we are here. This was her response

Isn& #39;t Civil Unions for gays? I hesitantly nod my head and then she says to me, so where is the person you want to marry? My girlfriend is standing right next to me that time ne and I point to her and she says "This person? Mos this is a man? So where are her breasts?"
It toom everything in me not to reach over her table and punch her in the face. So at the end she gives us a date and then I ask for her name and she wants to know what I want with it.
