It strikes me that feeling unsure about how good you are and whether people will reliably like you is a driver & symptom of a remarkable range of mental health issues:

3. Borderline, avoidant, histrionic & fragile narcissistic personality disorders... 1/

Insecurity is also a driver of a lot of mundane undesired behaviour:
1. Defensively taking a negative view of others, rather than celebrating their strengths
2. Finding it very hard to directly acknowledge mistakes and learn from them
3. Perfectionism ... 3/

I understand the & #39;self-esteem movement& #39; didn& #39;t really work out and maybe even backfired. But you can sure as hell see where it was coming from. 4/

Most people are good, their weaknesses are normal relatable, other people like them plenty, and they should feel fine about themselves. 5/
