Her: "It& #39;s cool."
Me: "You smoked it or tooted it?"
Her: "Smoked it. Crack."
Me: "Gotcha. What you smoke it from?"
Her: "Mostly a straight shooter. But if I can& #39;t find one, a can or a antenna."
Me: "Hmm."

Her: "You probably don& #39;t even know what I mean."
Me: "I know what you mean"

*silence*

Her: "Man. I really need to try to get me some help. But away from where I stay."
Me: "Where you stay?"
Her: "On the east side. Like off of Candler Rd."
Me: *nodding*

Her: "Not by the mall though. Like going toward Glenwood. But not that far down."
Me: "Oh okay. Like over by the old Hodges Barbeque and the 24 hour daycare?"

*silence*

Her: *looking impressed* "Damn." *laughing* "Yeah. Exactly."

Me: "I didn& #39;t know it was much crack over there."
Her: "Girl. It& #39;s crack everywhere."

*silence*

Her: "You know what?"
Me: "What& #39;s that?"
Her: "I like you & #39;cause you a doctor but . . . you kinda hood at the same time."
Me: *chuckling* "I& #39;m hood?"
Her: "Yeeah."

*laughter*

She grew silent. Then her voice softened.

Her: "That& #39;s a compliment, Dr. Manning. For real."
Me: "I believe you."
Her: *smiles*
Me: *smiles back*

I love this job, man.
