I was born & raised in CA ‘wildfire country,’ the daughter of a firefighter. This year is far & away the worst I’ve ever seen things – it seems like an endless string of crisis on top of crisis.
Folks are feeling, understandably, pretty anxious. https://www.cnn.com/2020/09/14/weather/wildfire-air-quality-trnd/index.html">https://www.cnn.com/2020/09/1...

I feel it, too. One of the more difficult aspects are the conversations w/Jojo, my 3-yo daughter. Teaching her why we must wash our hands so often—& why we can’t hug friends. Telling her why we march for racial justice. Trying to explain why the sky is orange & the sun is hiding.
For those of us who love this state for its iconic landscapes, its diverse ecosystems, its beauty — these past few weeks have been heartbreaking.
But we can’t give up on California. It’s home. It& #39;s worth fighting for. And it’s up to *us* to fight for it. https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/wildfires-california-dream-compromise/2020/09/12/780e80da-f465-11ea-a852-eb7526c580f4_story.html">https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/...

And California’s history of leading on environmental policy gives us good reason for hope. We can look to what we’ve achieved when we do fight. And we now have to fight harder than ever. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/09/27/climate/california-climate-change.html">https://www.nytimes.com/2017/09/2...
Under @JerryBrownGov, CA took the lead w/historic commitments to fight climate change. He pledged CA to upholding the Paris accord, & signed #SB100 into law—making CA the largest economy in the world to commit to 100% renewable, carbon-free energy by 2045. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/california-aims-entirely-green-power-2045-gov-jerry-brown-signs-n908281">https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-n...
Last yr, @GavinNewsom steered CA to lead on fuel economy standards—making a deal w/4 of the world’s largest automakers—putting us on a more aggressive path to curb emissions.
Now @XavierBecerra is suing the Trump admin to keep them from being rolled back. https://www.npr.org/2019/07/25/745389326/california-signs-deal-with-automakers-to-produce-fuel-efficient-cars">https://www.npr.org/2019/07/2...

This yr many of my colleagues led w/bills on climate change— @RobBonta introduced the CA Green New Deal, @BenAllen & @LorenaGonzalez fought to phase out single-use plastics, @AsmRobertRivas & @AsmMoniqueLimon sought to protect against devastating oil spills. #39;s%20Natural%20Resources%20Agency">https://www.nrdc.org/experts/victoria-rome/california-environmental-bills-2020#:~:text=Clean%20Energy%2C%20Climate%20and%20Resilience,the%20state& #39;s%20Natural%20Resources%20Agency">https://www.nrdc.org/experts/v...
But, frankly, the hard truth is not enough of these measures made it through. We failed at a time we can& #39;t afford to.
We must do more. And faster. I’m committed to working harder on this issue, and encourage activists to hold our feet to the fire on this. https://www.latimes.com/environment/story/2020-03-18/california-climate-change-move-faster">https://www.latimes.com/environme...

All of this underscores, once again, that who we elect MATTERS.
CA is blessed to have some of the brightest & most committed leaders engaged on environmental issues & combating climate change—but this moment demands more from us. I pledge to heed the call. https://www.cnn.com/2020/09/14/politics/donald-trump-wildfires-briefing-climate-change/index.html">https://www.cnn.com/2020/09/1...

We need leaders who believe in science & that climate change is real.
We need leaders who get that housing policy is environmental policy.
We need leaders who understand that environmental policy is a matter of racial justice.
And we must act. And vote. https://Iwillvote.com"> https://Iwillvote.com
