Early reports of what’s happening to detained migrant women in ICE custody are tremendously disturbing, but issue seems to be overprovision of surgeries for billing purposes/inadequate interpretation services rendering consent impossible rather than “mass systemic sterilization”

To be clear, that’s still horrific -even if every procedure were 100% necessary, w/o interpreters it’s nonconsensual by definition, and fact that these were migrant WOC certainly made them vulnerable. But sterilization would likely entail tubal ligation/IUDs, not hysterectomies
