wtf happened to fabricmc: a thread.
So, fabric& #39;s discord has always been a little... odd. Obvious trolls take weeks to get banned (someone was literally posting screens of textures they ripped from legacy console MC in showcase and claiming it was their mod and they didn& #39;t get even kicked). (1/?)
One of the regulars there was a person known as Vatuu. Was kinda pretentious sometimes but otherwise we got along alright. And then... well... I& #39;ll just let the screens speak for themselves. (tw: discussion of pedophilia) (2/?)
Note the dates. This happened in November. Vatuu remained unbanned until sometime around May. These screens are only the worst offense, as well, there was a lot of "why do you have to shove it in my face!?" when pride flags on MC banners were posted in the showcase channel. (3/?)
So, he FINALLY gets banned around May for, big shocker, homophobia. Everyone was under the impression that this was a permanent ban. So, fast forward to Sunday, 9/13, two days ago.
Someone writes the most pretentious gist I& #39;ve ever seen. https://gist.github.com/Maowcraft/15d636f7782a45547d9efd6b53870bf5">https://gist.github.com/Maowcraft... Like, seriously, I thought a few MC modding community members were pretentious but this is a whole nother level. (5/?)
Note that while two people who signed this gist are queer, one of them refuses to acknowledge that t**p is a slur for trans people. (Gee I wonder why you don& #39;t feel comfortable in queer spaces? Maybe it& #39;s because you want to call us slurs?) (6/?)
One of the signers is also someone who had never been in the server at the same time as Vatuu. This gets sent to the mods and Vatuu is unbanned in TWELVE FUCKING HOURS. Yep. Takes months to ban a homophobe, 12 hours to unban them. (7/?)
So I ping the mods in the server& #39;s off topic chat and ask why the fuck he& #39;s unbanned. I chose not to use modmail, since, again, the mods literally ignore everything. I had to do something they couldn& #39;t ignore. And with how non present these mods are, that means a huge mess. (8/?)
It was even more of a mess than I expected. The moderators seemed to think we wanted him banned as punishment rather than to keep ourselves safe, and didn& #39;t see the problem, as if homophobia is equivalent to trolling. (9/?)
Someone who was either an alt or the most self-hating gay person I& #39;ve ever seen kept arguing that we should just completely hide that we& #39;re queer and they won& #39;t bother us. Then Player bans two queer people on the "we reserve the right to ban you for whatever" rule (10/?).
It& #39;s slightly after this point where I and several others, including JellySquid, leave the server because the mods clearly care about homophobes more than queer people. Oh, and someone kept asking us to "stop talking about politics" despite government never being mentioned.(11/?)
Since there& #39;s another thread going around that paints Pyrofab in a very negative light, I& #39;d like to mention that he& #39;s apparently realized what he said wasn& #39;t right and is looking to improve, direct your ire at Player (the main moderator) instead. (12/?)
I& #39;d also like to mention that the Patchwork server, known for being... well, kinda toxic most of the time, has handled this entire situation far better. Also, most of the Fabric mods have resigned now, likely over disagreements with Player. (13/?)
So... in the aftermath, the person who equated trans people to pedos and hasn& #39;t apologized is still not banned. I make a discord, first called "Fabricord 2: no homophobes boogaloo", and post the invite in both Patchwork and the queer splinter server. (14/?)
So, where are we now? Well, that discord is now Woven, where we plan to make an extension of the Fabric API and possibly replace it if the Fabric project dies as a result of this, considering the lead maintainer seems to have... stepped out. (15/?)
anyway if any queer people are looking for a safe space to discuss fabric modding, uh, https://discord.gg/wdrabqF .">https://discord.gg/wdrabqF&q... I think that& #39;s it for now. Please spread this thread, I don& #39;t want to see Fabric die. Don& #39;t make me have to use Forge again. (16/16).
