[Thread] Me watching Suspiria: A commentary

I& #39;ll be watching Suspiria (2018) and rewatching the original 1977 version afterwards.
The original film left quite the impression on me with it& #39;s visuals and format the first time around but I want to pay closer attention to the storytelling on this second watch.

I& #39;m not familiar with Luca Guadagnino& #39;s work so I have a very open mind to this homage.
Quick sidenote: It kills me that I can& #39;t digitally own either of these films. I die a little bit every time I have to acknowledge that fact.
(1/?) Annotation: I& #39;m enjoying the added historical context to the story so far, even with just the background and clothing.

Marginalia: I wonder if this will be the consistent lighting of the movie. It makes me hold my breath for the intense colors to show (if any).
(2/?) ~Dakota Johnson, I love you already.

-I& #39;ve only a brief view of the dancing and my heart is racing at the potential of how movement will be incorporated into the film.

~Shit, I just got to Dakota& #39;s first dance sequence, punctuated by Tilda Swinton. My death was swift.
(3/?) ~The original film& #39;s vibe is well-threaded throughout well-picked moments. A nice touch.

-Had to take a micro-break because I am getting really into it now and I lost track of my heartbeat for a moment.

-Well, all I have to say about the second dance sequence is; YES
(4/?) ~The added content and bringing the witches to the foreground has me waiting to see where all that tension was shifted to.

{Footnote: I& #39;ve been thinking a lot about the body lately and all it& #39;s wonder and potential. This version of the film has met me at an opportune time}
(5/?) ~Tilda Swinton~! Her movements end me and bring me back from the brink. It comes off as second nature and it lands so well each time.

~How movement is used in the film is so, so delicious and makes me heady.

-The ending to Act Two knew me.
(6/?) -I felt that strong "Black Paintings" (Goya) vibe.

~This is such a visceral film and I applaud it for it& #39;s use of not just movement but all of which that falls under the bodily domain as well.

-I am so invested in the doctor now when I didn& #39;t want to care.
(7/?) ~The mystery has been unshrouded for a while now and I know the original story and yet and yet-! I still want to know.

-I am not well versed in horror, forgive me.

-Also, I have long stopped caring about any tension that isn& #39;t between Susie and Mme. Blanc so long ago.
(8/?) ~The moment when I realized I was in love with Mme. Blanc.

-I thought I would hate what would follow but fuck. That was a genuinely moving scene.

~I& #39;m a wreck. Fin.
(9/?) My final thoughts are that Suspiria (2018) is amazing and outshines the likes of Black Swan, effortlessly so.

I am so deeply proud of everyone who worked on this movie.

This is now my new favorite piece of art in the world.
Well, this thread was a bit of a learning curve for me. I only remembered half way through the movie that I had forgotten to put in a warning for potential spoilers. I& #39;ll do better next time.
I would like to conclude this thread by asserting that this was such a healing experience for me.

And again, that it kills me that I can& #39;t own these films digitally, being so terribly fond of them as I am.

Now, I& #39;ll be greeting the dawn by watching Suspiria (1977). Cheers~!
