Many people have been church hopping this season because they didn& #39;t see joining a church in the first place as joining a family so much as a vibe. Having to meet different hours, different places, different ways -- that changes the vibe. So they& #39;re looking elsewhere.
We don& #39;t do family like that. Or we shouldn& #39;t. If Grandma said, "Next Thanksgiving we& #39;re gonna eat outside" we wouldn& #39;t find a new grandma. You could tell Grandma you don& #39;t like it. That you wish we could go back inside. But you& #39;re there Thanksgiving eating her food.
Don& #39;t treat church like a consumer product. Church is a family, not a club, a program, or a style preference.
Coda: Someone on FB brought up the analogy that if Grandma called off Thanksgiving, you& #39;d go to someone else& #39;s house. I think a more fitting analogy is this: Grandma& #39;s sick & said she can& #39;t do Thanksgiving this year. But she will when she& #39;s better. Do you go get a new Grandma?
