After 3 years of searching, 30+ applications / processes and moving country 3 times. I am excited announce that I will starting my first full time venture capital role tomorrow. 1/n
This 3 year journey has given me plenty of time to think about the junior VC job market in Europe as well as a lot of first hand experience of recruiting practices. Frankly the situation is pretty hostile for candidates: 2/n
Roles are scarce, A large chunk of them are completely hidden to the public, there is hyper competition the roles that are open, and even these processes are susceptible to hijacking by network 3/n
Firms struggle to materially differentiate between the 100s of CVs they often receive. Subjectivity or & #39;fit& #39; take over the last stages powered by the fact that most junior VCs don& #39;t even know if they themselves are good at their job (long feedback loops) 4/n
These factors combine to make it difficult for a candidate to develop a steady stream of roles to interview for while simultaneously making it unlikely that they will get any particular one. A lethal combination of low chances and low volume 5/n
In light of these conditions I focused on tactics to make the most of the scarce opportunities. The main aim was to be able to consistently get to first interview for roles I applied for. Easier said than done! Once this was achieved the journey became a lot smoother. 6/n
To help prospective candidates, I have written a 3 part blog post which 1) details my 3 year journey, 2) describes the job market conditions and 3) lastly provides tips I used to maximise my chances per process. It also contains case studies and cover letters used in apps. 7/n

I would also like to thank everyone who helped me along the way particularly @creandum @localglobevc and @diversityvc. I& #39;m pretty sure that I would still be searching for a role but for each them taking chances on me. There are more list of thank yous in the post 9/n
