in 2011 (DURING the coalition government) 98% of The #LibDems& #39; MPs voted AGAINST David Cameron& #39;s plans to hold an #EURef...

That& #39;s 0% of current LD MPs.

The">https://www.theguardian.com/politics/... #LibDems are NOT responsible for enabling Brexit, in any way, shape, or form. https://twitter.com/pimlicat/status/1299680448633856001">https://twitter.com/pimlicat/...
Some people appear to be confused by this past leaflet from The #LibDems, calling for an #EURef...

Critics believe that the leaflet is evidence of hypocrisy or inconsistencies in The #LibDems& #39; pro-EU stance.

It& #39;s neither
Clegg wanted an #EURef in 2008, as Gordon Brown didn& #39;t offer one when signing The Lisbon Treaty.

The newsprint media climate was MUCH more EU-friendly, a decade ago.

It would have been safe to offer an #EURref AT THAT TIME - and The #LibDems would have campaigned to #Remain.
Labour ALSO promised an #EURef in their 2005 manifesto (albeit not planned to be a Leave/Remain ref).

But when EU Constitution Treaty became Lisbon Treaty, they could& #39;ve then offered their promised #EURef AND adapted to become Leave/Remain ref. (to silence Leavers at that time).
Nick Clegg was clear that holding an #EURef in 2008 (at the time of The Lisbon Treaty) would have silenced any calls for our leaving, for a generation.

Ukip& #39;s main argument was Gordon Brown& #39;s signing of the treaty without the people having #FinalSay. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2008/feb/25/eu.liberaldemocrats">https://www.theguardian.com/world/200...
The #LibDems #GE2010 manifesto only stated that an #EURef should be offered the next time there was a FUNDAMENTAL CHANGE between The UK& #39;s relationship with the The EU.

There had been NO fundamental change comparable to The Lisbon Treaty from 2010-2016.
The coalition govt. put into law that an #EURef COULD happen in the future (under appropriate conditions)...

NOT that it definitely WOULD (or SHOULD) for no good reason.

Note Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg& #39;s comments, in January 2013.
You really don& #39;t have to search too hard, to find contemporaneous reports of The #LibDems& #39; opposition to The Tories& #39; plans to hold an #EURef.

Here& #39;s a report from 2015, towards the end of the coalition.

#ToryEnablers? https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="🙄" title="Gesicht mit rollenden Augen" aria-label="Emoji: Gesicht mit rollenden Augen"> https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2015/may/06/lib-dem-opposition-to-eu-referendum-is-of-very-highest-importance-says-cable">https://www.theguardian.com/politics/...
...And then we have the curious "quantum state" accusation, that The #LibDems are both utterly inconsequential yet WHOLLY responsible for the result of #GE2019.

Stop rewriting history.

Labour ALSO wanted #GE2019 to happen.

Here& #39;s John McDonnell on Peston in February 2018, stating he& #39;d prefer a general election to a second confirmatory ref.

Make NO mistake that Labour WANTED a general election, INSTEAD of campaigning for a #FinalSay referendum on The Tories& #39; Brexit plans.
