Good morning @RexArcherMD, couldn& #39;t help but notice you still have this tweet up saying Kansas City should be more like NYC. If Kansas City were like NYC, we& #39;d have 1,385 #COVID19 deaths. We currently have 96 in KCMO. But at least their curve is flat now! https://twitter.com/RexArcherMD/status/1295540554399469569?s=20">https://twitter.com/RexArcher...
But there isn& #39;t just COVID mortality - what about from lockdowns? If Queens is any indication, suicides in NYC have spiked drastically since 2019 - they saw the same number of suicides in 6 weeks that they had previously seen over 4 months in 2019. https://www.nydailynews.com/coronavirus/ny-coronavirus-queens-suicide-rates-increase-20200429-mqyzdplseva5belmqewn43u56i-story.html">https://www.nydailynews.com/coronavir...
Not just suicides, but drug overdoses too - Queens has had a 56% increase in overdose deaths compared to 2019.

1/4 of apartment renters in NYC have not been able to pay their rent since March. That& #39;s 1.4 million people that could potentially lose their homes. https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/quarter-of-apartment-renters-in-new-york-city-havent-paid-rent-since-march">https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/quar...
1/3 of NYC small businesses are likely to close forever. I for one like our small businesses in KC - one in particular, Tapcade, has been one of my favorite hangouts for years. They permanently close on Sunday. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/03/nyregion/nyc-small-businesses-closing-coronavirus.html">https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/0...
In June (cases and deaths were essentially zero at this point in NY) lockdowns were costing NYC $173 million per day. But I& #39;m sure they were just suppressing the "next wave"!

And to make things worse, people are leaving NYC in droves, bringing their tax dollars with them. How are they going to make up that kind of deficit?

But hey, let& #39;s look at our situation in KC - as you obsess over rising case numbers, deaths have flattened. Case numbers have gone up, and deaths have gone down. Deaths started slowing in June/July, which is when KC mobility had nearly reached pre-pandemic levels. Huh?
So @RexArcherMD , which part of NYC do you want us to be like? The huge number of COVID 19 deaths? The huge rise in suicides/overdoses? Bringing a tsunami of impending homelessness to 1/4 of KC renters? Destroying small businesses? Bankrupting the city?
So stop with your anti-data, anti-reality nonsense. The two most important indicators, hospitalizations and deaths, have flattened in KC. There are 238 people hospitalized with (not necessarily from) #COVID19, in a region of what, 2+ million people?
Based on every other spike in every other city throughout the United States, this will be effectively over in KC by mid-late September. Yes, the spike came late, but the virus was going to come regardless of how many NPIs we introduced (see New Zealand). We are going to be fine.
@kerpen @AskeladdenTX @JordanSchachtel @justin_hart @AlexBerenson If any of you feel like sharing this, I& #39;d appreciate it. The KC Dept of Health Director has really been showing his partisanship and incompetence. We currently have a state of emergency until January 2021.
