What is maddening about the current outrage culture is that it lacks the honesty to admit when it was misinformed. Many of the events offered to prove "systemic injustice" turn out later to have had extenuating circumstances that throw real doubt on the original claim of ..1/6
..targeted mistreatment. But then when the NEXT incident happens, ALL the past ones (even the ones debunked) get retold as if the original claims were legitimate. The reason for this, of course, is that for it to be systemic there MUST be a sustained pattern. But the pattern, 2/6
if it requires debunked instances, would then be manufactured. And if it is being manufactured we would be wise to ask, "Who is trying to fuel this, and why?" What is the goal? Who does this benefit? It is fair to ask, if EVERY ONE of these incidents were completely accurate 3/6
and they take place MONTHS apart, would it really represent something systemic? We are not just talking months apart, we& #39;re talking about single incidents in DIFFERENT CITIES! The narrative is being woven together making use of incidents months apart, in different cities, and 4/6
then presented as if it is happening all over the country, all the time, every day. When that belief becomes ingrained, you end up with confirmation bias. Something that happens to ANYONE is interpreted as TARGETING behavior. My argument is NOT that police reforms are never 5/6
needed. My question is, do we want truth, and real improvement, or is someone looking to create an atmosphere that results in ushering in their own power and profit? If you really want "justice" then nothing but completely accurate information must be allowed to guide us. 6/6
