Here& #39;s the problem with the GOP convention: Its goal is to portray Trump as a smashing success, when in fact he& #39;s been a miserable failure. Its wildly absurd depiction of the state of the country on so many fronts flows from that disconnect.

The convention& #39;s argument: If you think America is a hellscape now, reelect the guy who& #39;s presiding over it, because only he is strong enough to control it.
