It& #39;s Tuesday Weld& #39;s birthday. Such a great and unpredictable actress. /1
Speaking of unpredictable, THIS SCENE in LORD LOVE A DUCK. Like, what on EARTH ... she is fearless. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VWkMxCM8wg">https://www.youtube.com/watch...
Then there& #39;s the great PRETTY POISON ...
In ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD, when Cliff Booth drives home to his trailer behind the drive-in, PRETTY POISON is on the marquee.
And here she is with, well, you know, in WILD IN THE COUNTRY - (screenplay by Clifford Odets!) - where the 2 of them SMOKE UP THE SCREEN together. "Banana oil!!" she squeals/laughs, manipulative, teasing-scolding, playing w/fire. Only she would come up w/a line reading like that.
In my collection of quotes about EP, i.e. other people& #39;s reactions to him, Tuesday Weld& #39;s is one of my favorites. They were very similar in a lot of ways. She "got" him. Maybe she even recognized herself IN him. Wild. Like, REALLY wild. The genuine article.
If you want to read in-depth and - imo - important pieces of analysis about two of her best performances - in PRETTY POISON and Frank Perry& #39;s adaptation of PLAY IT AS IT LAYS, I point you to @SunsetGunShot & #39;s pieces for the @newbeverly site: https://thenewbev.com/blog/2019/06/kim-morgan-pretty-poison/">https://thenewbev.com/blog/2019...
And finally: Matthew Sweet introduced a generation to her by putting her on his album cover so everyone went, "Who is that?"
The last time I posted about her, some douche said - w/that "rational" "oh come now, Sheila" tone that I despise - "Let& #39;s not overstate this, it& #39;s fine to say she& #39;s good without exaggerating." Oh shut up, ya bore. People who find enthusiasm upsetting have no place in my world.
So ... to not end on an irritated-Sheila note: happy birthday to this really special actress, whose gifts are unique, wild, unfettered, and yet she& #39;s able to harness it all, control it, internalize it (if necessary). She can do anything. #BOTD #TuesdayWeld
