While I& #39;m a big believer in coaches being able to change and redeem themselves for past wrongdoings, we can& #39;t rush past reckoning with their abusive practices to get to the redemption phase of the story. We& #39;re simply not at that point yet.

Also: not everyone can or should be redeemed. Some acts are too awful to allow for it.

But for those who can really make amends, this can& #39;t happen unless they/we truly reckon with the wrongdoings in all of their specificity. And it can& #39;t be done on the timetable of those who did the abuse.

One final point: Whether or not someone can be redeemed is not up to us, the people who weren& #39;t harmed by this person. We have nothing to forgive because we weren& #39;t the victims.
