You know, I also want to say, I equate this ideal of "professorial presence" as it& #39;s often defined in academia as the idea that we should "leave our emotions at the door." I have spoken on that before. Emotions are not shoes. It doesn& #39;t work like that...
But in trying to do that, in buying into the illusion that you can sever yourself from your emotions, you make yourself sick. You create rigid, cold learning environments that are contrary to everything we know about how brains learn. Your relationships suffer.
So let& #39;s just keep showing up as whole human beings, emotions and all. Emotions are wonderful. You can be smart and talk about emotions. And bodies! Look out. We have bodies too. You can be smart and talk about being embodied.
