sexualization is the act of sexualizing someone or something (seeing someone or something in sexual terms)
sexualization can occur when:
i. a personโs value is limited to his/her sexual appeal. intelligence, abilities, values, etc. are absent from sexualized messages and images
ii. a person is held to a standard that equates physical attractiveness with being sexy. e.g. standards for women often involve unrealistic, โperfectโ body types
iii. a person is sexually objectified. the person is made into an object or โthingโ for the pleasure of others as opposed to being portrayed as an individual
iv. sexuality is inappropriately imposed upon a person. (there are five aspects of sexuality: sensuality, intimacy, identity, sexual health/reproduction, and sexualization. in this case we are not talking about identity !!) e.g. many children and teens are influenced by +
