Tlaib lost to Jones in the Democratic primary in the 2018 special election by >1,600 votes, but beat Jones in the Dem primary for the 2018 general election by ~900 votes.

In the 2020 Dem primary (which was less crowded than in 2018), Tlaib won in a landslide, currently by a 2-1 margin over Jones (~30,000 vote difference as of this tweet).

if you’re wondering how two primaries are held on the same day and how Tlaib lost one but won the other, i really have no idea how to answer that. but Brenda Jones ended up finishing John Conyers term before Tlaib took the reigns.
