One plus-side to not having tanks post-Force Design is that the Marine Corps may be more open to novel ways to incorporate UGVs.
I& #39;m thinking the reverse of Seeds of Disaster - the confiscation of German tanks after WW1 allowed them to innovate with regards to the role of armor, while France& #39;s 18k infantry support tanks locked them into doctrine where armor was infantry support.
I know this is simplifying Doughty& #39;s argument and the realities of French armor doctrine pre-1940, and that the lack of 2-way radio sets is a separate issue, but the point stands.
But the un-manned / autonomous weapons platforms will likely follow the MV-22 in that the CH-46 pilots flew it like a CH-46, but the new pilots flew the 22 to its advantages.
The answer may well be an infantry-support-tank-like UGV, to complete the irony with regards to Seeds of Disaster.
