In your opinion, what is the SINGLE most important piece of advice you can give to a budding author?

For what it& #39;s worth, my (unpopular) 1 piece of advice is:

Put your ego aside & learn to see when your writing is terrible, or you will waste years of your time. Blood, sweat and tears mean nothing. Ultimately, if it& #39;s bad, it& #39;s bad, no matter how much research or & #39;soul& #39; is in it

Some WONDERFUL suggestions so far.

I need to do some RL stuff now, but please keep contributing. Thx for making this such an interesting (and well-mannered) thread!
