I strongly believe in peoples& #39; rights to be anonymous on Twitter, and to use all the tools at their disposal to maintain anonymity and privacy, including some deception. This is why and so many others never questioned or even thought to question her identity.

But the impact on other peoples& #39; lives, emotions and big, critical decisions invited scrutiny from myself and others that this story could not sustain. It& #39;s been a gut-wrenching, confusing and infuriating 48 hours on so many different levels.
