Declaration of a State of Disaster in Victoria is a very big deal. Under the Act, the govt can:

Interested to know why the govt feels a State of Disaster is required, on top of the already-declared and continuing Public Health State of Emergency.

Premier is saying the disaster declaration gives govt the capability to use police in a broader range of roles, use the ADF in more roles.

Disaster declaration “is…so that police can do the enforcement work they need to do…and also…allows us to direct any government agency or department. It is about efficiency and making sure that everybody is focused on the task at hand."
