I was fired from my job today. I& #39;ve been wearing a George Floyd pin on my uniform ever since I started back at work on June 22, and my boss chose today in the middle of my shift to tell me it was harming her business and I could either take it off or go home for good.
This is the pin. Truly as inoffensive as it could possibly be, but she said she& #39;d been fielding calls about it all summer, which she added that she always defended my right to wear it, but that she couldn& #39;t tolerate it any longer
The funny thing is I told them a few weeks ago that when school starts I& #39;ll be stepping back from work to focus on that full time, so they really just screwed over their own scheduling for the next week and a half.
Anyways, I understand this means that I& #39;ve been "canceled" and @bariweiss is obligated to platform me as a result
I& #39;d like to add that ever since I started wearing this pin at work not a single customer has ever complained to me about it. Every now and then a customer or coworker would see it and offer their own support as well. The bigots were all too spineless to challenge me to my face.
I told my parents when I came home and they were both very supportive. My dad is gonna help me file for workers comp or whatever it& #39;s called.
Plus I put all my UI benefits into savings during the shutdown and I have more than enough to get me through the school year even if I decide not to find another job while in school. If anything it& #39;s a relief to know that I no longer have to work in a restaurant during covid
I don& #39;t really know a good way to end this thread. Fuck the feds.
Oh and if anyone needs a couple of well used aprons for waiting on tables hmu for a good price I& #39;ve got a couple I need to get rid of
