During my mom& #39;s era, The Wizard of Oz only played on television once a year. It was a rare evening of no kids playing outside. All the families in the neighborhood would cook a nice dinner for this special movie night. Somehow, nobody knew that the movie was filmed in color.
I& #39;ve asked her how that was possible and she said they didn& #39;t know wtf Technicolor was and being that Google didn& #39;t exist and they were in the middle of a civil rights movement, finding out wasn& #39;t a high priority.
So anyway, after Pops had a great year at work, he brought home the very first color TV in the neighborhood. He was The Man.
And since their new TV was bigger than everyone else& #39;s, he was also The Host of that year& #39;s Wizard of Oz movie night.
Let me remind you.... all of these people had been watching the movie annually for years and didn& #39;t know that the movie was filmed in color.
This whole entire room of people HAD. NO. IDEA.
THEY. DID. NOT. KNOW.
THIS MOMENT.
These niggas were SHOOK y& #39;all. They were just as surprised as Dorothy.
Like, this was a legit revelation to them. Some ran out to tell the folks who couldn& #39;t make it like it was BIG news.
Everyone fell out, they were completely unprepared. They were witnessing the future.
And that& #39;s really it. Just wanted to share a story.
