Inspired by a convo with @SandrineCMF, I& #39;ve decided to share some tips on #TaxReturns.

I am also not an accountant, so the info below is based on my own research (with references to #ATO). 2/n
International students do not receive #medicare. However, a 2% levy is automatically applied on all your taxable income (that excludes your scholarship). To claim that 2% back, you need to get a Medicare Entitlement Statement that says you are not eligible for Medicare. 3/n
It is a super quick and easy form. You can go here for more info on how to apply https://www.ato.gov.au/individuals/medicare-levy/medicare-levy-exemption/">https://www.ato.gov.au/individua... 4/n
Tip 2: During #COVID19, if you have been working from home, you can claim a deduction of 80 cents for each hour you worked from home in the 2019–20 income year during the period 1 March to 30 June 2020. Tip 3: If you are an Australian citizen or PR, this thread by @_erikaroper might be worth checking out. https://twitter.com/_erikaroper/status/1166611741180141568?s=19">https://twitter.com/_erikarop... 6/n
If you have more tips, please let me know and I& #39;ll add to this. As #phdstudents, a lot of us struggle to get by (especially if you are #internationalstudents), so any little bits can help. #phdlife #phdchat 7/7
