Why I dislike SAO Gameverse (from someone who doesn& #39;t play SAOGV) - A stupid, cynical, downright insulting thread.

I can already expect a backlash from SAOGV fans and even my mutual with this take, and that& #39;s fine, I understand, and its totally justified given where I came from.
Given my history in Twitter, it should come as no surprise that yes, I don& #39;t really like the Gameverse. Many have known me for that.

But I want to make this very clear: 𝐈 𝐝𝐨𝐧& #39;𝐭 𝐑𝐚𝐭𝐞 π†πšπ¦πžπ―πžπ«π¬πž 𝐜𝐑𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬. Those who followed me knew that
I adore Eydis Synthesis Ten. It& #39;s my favorite non-canon SAO character ever. I like Rain, she& #39;s cool, and I do like Strea as a character, so clearly, the new characters aren& #39;t my biggest issue.

Also, to give a bit of backstory, yes I do play GV games briefly.
I played Infinity Moment on the PSP (with all its Japanese glory, never got far), and I do watch some playthroughs of other GV games.

But still, I never really liked GV, and let me explain my opinion, why I dislike the GV games, one by one. Hopefully, you will understand my side
First of all, I don& #39;t like the concept of alternate universes/timelines in a series. The few exceptions to this are with the MegaMan Battle Network/Starforce timeline and the Terminator movies

To me, if you want to do alternate timelines, you need to give me a good reason why
I should give a damn, what stuff in the new timeline that hooked me. In BN/SF, its an entirely new story if Dr. Light took networking instead of robotics. It sold me with great writing and execution.

In the Terminator movies, it was the hope for a reinvention of the series
mostly failed but it tried enough to spark my interest.

GV had a good hook. A what-if scenario when the players of SAO actually go all the way to F100. Sound& #39;s good to me. Unfortunately, the execution is bad, the story is nothing to write home about, and probably my biggest
problem: We play as Kirito, not as an OC.

I don& #39;t hate games with dating mechanism, I never did. I played Persona 3 FFS. But in those games, you are a blank slate, you chose what you become, that& #39;s why I& #39;m not bothered that much and just follow along the ride
Kirito isn& #39;t a blank slate. He& #39;s someone you relate to, and to add multiple romance options in the games makes me uncomfortable

Yes, it& #39;s optional. Yes, it& #39;s non-canon. Yes, you can just go for the Asuna route and call it a day, but the fact that it exists really discomforts me.
This is not me being a Kirisuna elitist. This is me not comfortable with the game giving multiple romance options to a character I relate to as if Kirito is a harem protagonist. I hate that.

This is why Persona never say outright who& #39;s the canon route, because
the character is meant to be you, and you can form your own love story with the characters

Kirito isn& #39;t a blank slate, he& #39;s an actual character, and the fact that the games take it away in favor of a self-insert really didn& #39;t bode well with me

To me, Gameverse is the embodiment
of what SAO is exactly the opposite, one that the haters claim the main series to be: a harem series, with a blank self-insert character, and lots of fanservice.

This is probably a very cynical take on GV, and honestly, I agree. I& #39;d admit that I haven& #39;t played the games enough
to justify that viewpoint, but from what I saw with the playthroughs, it& #39;s what I saw it is, and I don& #39;t like that.

It& #39;s is also why I was interested in Fatal Bullet more than any other GV game, because the fact that you play as OC helps so much in mitigating that awkwardness.
I have 2 hopes for an SAO game. One is where, like Persona, you forge your own path, alongside the characters you knew and love, true to the source material and the series& #39; canon. Fatal Bullet and Lycoris gave me glimpses of that game, and that I applaud them, but it& #39;s not enough
The other is a story-driven game reliving the SAO stories from start to finish featuring characters you knew and love. Again, Lycoris gave me a glimpse of that, but I want more. That& #39;s why DBZ Kakarot and the new Fairy Tail game impressed me and that& #39;s why I& #39;m kinda sad SAO isn& #39;t
getting the same kind of love and care in the games like DBZ and FT.

Maybe it& #39;s just my wishful thinking, being super selfish and cynical, I& #39;m probably am. I wish I could give GV a fair shot, but I& #39;m spoiled by how good the main series has with its characters and storyline, I
doubt with GV& #39;s current characterization of Kirito and others, alongside the stories they told I could sit back and give the series a fair chance. Again, probably me being so cynical, but I& #39;d rather come clean rather than being shot down (then again, I& #39;ll be shot down anyway) lol
I don& #39;t mind if you like GV. That& #39;s totally fine and I respect you for that, but that& #39;s the plain truth, I don& #39;t like GV because some of the decisions made in the games. Maybe one day I could get over that biased thought-process but for now, I& #39;ll be sticking at the main series.
For those of you who will be playing Lycoris tomorrow, I sincerely say good luck and have fun on your journeys. I don& #39;t expect people to agree, but I do hope people get where I coming from even if it& #39;s shitty in your opinion.

Me? I& #39;m going to play Persona 4 Golden. Can& #39;t wait.
So, there you go, why I disliked GV. I& #39;m sure some of you are going to be pissed and hate me for it. Some may accuse me of beating a dead horse, but I& #39;d rather be honest and say now rather than later

So yeah, I& #39;m ready to take the L shower.
