It hasn& #39;t even been a week since I made a thread about something, so I figured this would be a good time to talk about another show I recently finished rewatching.

Flip Flappers. #FlipFlapping
I know what you& #39;re thinking, why would I talk about an anime when pretending to hate anime is part of my brand?

Well, that& #39;s because Flip Flappers perfectly exemplifies WHY I dislike most anime: they fail to be unique.
That& #39;s the reason why I tend to gravitate towards Studio Trigger Productions; I think anime as a medium has (wait for it) unlimited potential for storytelling, a potential most animes fail to exploit.

Flip Flappers is not one of those.
So, what is Flip Flappers then?

I often joke that this show is Precure but as an anime, but more accurately, Flip Flapper is what Precure could be if it weren& #39;t restrained by it& #39;s target demographic.
That means that yes, it is a Magical Girl show that is somewhat aimed at a more mature audience.

But surprisingly, it is not a Madoka clone in any way, if anything it is the opposite of that.
The story is certainly complex and it goes to some dark places, but this is never done for the sake of shock value.

All the drama serves a purpose, and while there are some strange turns in there, this is ultimately a story about love, friendship and all that crap.
In a way, that can be the weakness of this story since it can make it predictable, but the characters make it work.

Make no mistake, while these is a complex plot, this is still a character driven story.

Oh, and one of those character is voiced by M A O.
If there& #39;s one thing I do hold against this show, it& #39;s its length:

Like many an anime, this show is 13 eps long, which is too short for the story it tries to tell.

The result is that a lot of the plot twist are back loaded into the last few episodes, which hurts the narrative.
Again, this is the kind of story that Precure could tell if it weren& #39;t limited by its audience, and that makes it a perfect fit for 4 cour treatment, even 2 cours could work.

But as it is, while the story is good, by the end it becomes a bit too convoluted for it& #39;s own good.
Leaving that aside, this show is still a very unique experience that is quite enjoyable, and part of it comes from it& #39;s visual identity.

Simply put, very few shows out there are as visually varied and pretty as this one.
In a nutshell, this is a show I can highly recommend.

It does start as a MG show, but that aspect does fall to the side rather quickly and it becomes something more, which does add to the uniqueness of it.

There are really not a lot of shows like this one.
It is not without issues, again, the show could have used more run time to tell its story and they could have really developed the "real world" aspect a bit more.

But if you& #39;re tired of boring old anime, this is an excellent option.

Oh, and Yayaka is forever best girl.
