Bo Peep Bo Peep by T-ara, and why it’s a creepy, edm-pop masterpiece.
An analysis by a music student of over a century.

This song has been produced by the legendary SHINSADONG TIGER. And it lives up to its expectations. The song is perfect for it’s theme “BO PEEP FUCK ME”. There are many musical elements inserted into the song, ones from the now and some from centuries ago, so let’s begin.
1. The hook.
This is the sound fans dub as “fuck me fuck me bo peep bo peep ow” which is prevalent through the entire post-chorus and makes a cameo in the intro, this is, a melody so fucking catchy and obnoxious it will haunt you in your sleep

This is very allegorical as you can hear either "BO PEEP" or "FUCK ME" and switch anytime. The phrase "to play bo peep" was in use from the 14th century to refer to the punishment of being stood in a pillory. The audio quality of this song sounds medieval but that& #39;s on purpose!
On the other hand, the phrase "fuck me" is a reference to the tale of the Kumiho fox, which is referenced in the video as well. The fox seduces boys and eats their livers or hearts, depending on the legend. This was a very artistic and underappreciated reference.
2. The vocals
T-ara, also known as the best group when it comes to music, dancing, singing, acting, rapping, music videos, variety skills, visuals and scandals gave us the perfect vocal delivery on this track. Jiyeon& #39;s vocal range is so wide!

3. The instrumental
This instrumental is well crafted for many reasons, but I shall keep it short. You can hear doot doot doot, doo durudu dududoot, but you can also hear DUduDUduDUduDUduDUdu. They form a beautiful melodic harmony together.

Instrumentals being repetitive is often seen in pop music, and the team behind Bo Peep Bo Peep did an excellent job putting the horror of repetition into the song without making the song repetitive.
4. The narrators
T-ara are all for diversity, so they included both a male and female narrator. Your problematic favs could never! They also advocate for mental health, the song starts AND ends with the line "don& #39;t lose your temper so quickly" and it is a great reminder for us.

5. The K-pop elements
K-pop, is a very difficult genre to make sound ‘good’, a hit or miss to be put simply when you merge it with pop. K-pop either lands you with masterpieces or- you end up with noise.

The K-pop is very well blended compared to some other K-pop songs i’ve heard. Hopefully this sets and example to other producers who intend to dabble into the genre with other groups.
The way they made Qri sound the same this verse is how they write out a story progressing- the first verse was the same as this one, but this is the second one - a sign that they sound the same. Consistency is important!
The story of this song is so well told with the vocals paired with the strong instrumentals, they match so well- the team of producers have been working with T-ara A LOT and know their voices inside out- and they utilised the best of all the members in this whole ALBUM.
All in all- this song captures 3 things perfectly- Bo Peep, EDM-pop and T-ara. Feel free to add on! And if I find anymore easter eggs i’ll be sure to add on.
