this is a really good thread and articulates really well why saying “I’m young, I’ll be fine” about COVID and the annoyances of lockdown and social distancing is, IMO, missing the bigger point — https://twitter.com/baddestmamajama/status/1279944075555172352">https://twitter.com/baddestma...
when I had cancer doctors all told me my outcome was massively improved by the fact I was relatively young and relatively fit, and they were right for the most part. but it took me MONTHS after treatment/illness to get back to normal. after chemo I could barely climb the stairs —
I was in the worst shape of my life and so weak that when I caught flu 4 months later, despite being “young and fit” I was admitted to hospital on an IV. & as this thread points out, having a LT/chronic condition is not just devastating to physical health, but mental health too —
aside from the obvious anxiety ide effects, u literally cannot plan for getting back to “normal life”: treatment and recovery takes up ur entire calendar, it’s frustrating and it’s lonely
If you’re annoyed about the time we’ve lost to lockdown this year (same!), then surely u want to avoid losing time to sickness and a potentially arduous recovery period too. wear a mask
