I have been beating the "asymmetrical polarization" drum for over 15 years & it& #39;s starting to seem like the broader public is going to catch on about 5 minutes before the fascists completely take over and render the point moot.
What& #39;s always struck me is the extent to which many people *begin* with the premise that the 2 sides in America& #39;s political conflict are mirror images. It& #39;s a fixed presumption; evidence-gathering & arguments are reverse engineered to support it.
Part of the great attraction, I think, is that both-sides analysis, in all its many forms, necessarily implies that the analyst is smarter & more perceptive than those silly partisans who choose a side. "I see things from a higher plane; I& #39;m not caught up in your silly passions."
Well Twitter I love all of the 17 concurrent arguments I& #39;m having with you but I gotta sign off -- we& #39;re gonna go have some socially distanced hot dogs and fireworks.
