A friend calls me and asks questions about the state of COVID mainly bc I work in healthcare. I have done COVID testing and am on a COVID research study team but am not what anyone would call “front line” (1/)
I refer them to people or resources that give guidelines and recommendations... especially if I am not confident I know the answer to a question or concern , I stress caution but also point out all the things they can do if they are feeling isolated (2/)
I encourage them to unglue themselves from watching 24-7 coverage (a recommendation given by CDC).
He asked my opinion on “the fucking mask issue” and I hear him getting heated. He says he has a business trip coming up and would I recommend he wear a mask on the plane (3/)

I said that I would absolutely wear a mask because.... And He absolutely erupts ... screaming down the phone “THIS IS FUCKING RIDICULOUS YOU ALL NEED TO DO SOMETHING THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN FIXED BY NOW!” This was not my friend- not the person I know/love (4/)
He went on for a while - politics, conspiracy, control, you name it... he yelled it. Eventually saying “I gotta go I can’t talk anymore right now” and hung up.

For SOME ppl- C19 is the first problem that self-righteous blame and/or a blind eye cannot fix. They want so badly for pandemics to exist only in history books because surely we are too advanced for such things- we must be! There must ALWAYS be an easy solution right? (6/)
The proverbial “they” could fix it if they really wanted to right? There must be a conspiracy because that is the only thing that “makes sense”... but COVID isn’t caving to these defense mechanisms.

I hope people will stop turning on each other as though there is some pro-Covid group just loving every minute of this. While there are definitely arrogant agitators who may only care when it hits home in some way... (8/)
I think some that seem resistant may be the most terrified and bewildered- I could be wrong it’s just how I feel right now... and please know I’m not saying to let up on anything. Sorry for the length. #processing Wishing everyone well
