After three days of this, it&
#39;s clear NYPD&
#39;s tactic for "de-escalation" is form a line, charge at peaceful protesters, disperse them to smaller groups, form new lines, charge at them, and repeat until everyone gets tired and/or arrested and either goes home or to jail.

It is true that some protesters resort to throwing shit, breaking stuff, etc. as the day goes on. Obviously that&
#39;s bad and they shouldn&
#39;t do that. But it seems to be a response to the police not permitting them to demonstrate peacefully.
If the police believe this is the best tactic for dispersing protests, then it&
#39;s up to
@NYCMayor and
@NYPDShea to justify that behavior. But that&
#39;s not what they&
#39;ve been saying. In fact, they say they encourage peaceful protests. Hard to square that with these tactics.
