Prime example of influencers saying one thing and their actions saying something completely different. This thread is a compilation of the way @itsindysev preaches equality publicly and practices erasure of black women’s voices in private (1/?)
to start off i want to say that I’ve been a fan of Indy and her work since 2018 and have been following her across all of her platforms, which is why I decided to join Ghost Gang, her FB group made as a safe space for women to support women
The group has over 11,000 people in it, from all over the world so of course when any big event happens it becomes a place of discourse. So it’s no surprise that with all the protests happening around the US, people have been talking about it.
And while I’ve seen a lot of support from allies in the chat, I’ve seen a LOT of hate and ignorance being spewed from mostly conservative Trump supporters (no surprise there). Here are some examples I have offhand.
When I called the group out on it, I specifically tagged Indy, criticizing her for the fact that she has been vocal about black issues and said she needs to use her platform to speak up on Twitter and Instagram, but has yet to speak up for black people in the Ghost Gang group.
Instead, she has taken the path of neutrality, saying she is a mediator and allowing for “dialogue on both sides” saying she “is trying to highlight the real experiences of black women in this group” well ma’am I have yet to see it.
While I continued to disagree, because when it comes to racism like I’ve said before and I’ll say again— there are no two sides because there is no grey area in this issue. You are either racist or you are not, thus you are either right or wrong. Period
Instead of listening to me though she just continued to argue back and forth and listen to RESPOND instead to understand. And tried to gaslight me and act like I’m trying to attack her. When instead, all I continued to do is provide light criticism of how she is handling her FB.
Moving on to yesterday, well people in the chat felt GG was no longer a safe space for black people since Trump supporters were making BLM about them and saying all sorts of racist things, so a new chat was made
Indy (or her mother) removed loads of people in the new group from GG for “bullying” these Trump supporters. Meanwhile she has kept people in who have made ignorant and racist remarks with no problem.
Which makes sense since Indy’s own mother and moderator of the group made a post in the chat about why being a Trump supporter doesn’t make her racist and how she can “look past the dumb, idiotic things he says” so this comes as no surprise to me.
And when another black woman called her out on that, she told her to leave the group because “she clearly didn’t like her” and then blocked her on Twitter when instead all she wanted to do was hold her accountable.
All in all I made this thread because I think it’s important to show when influencers are being hypocritical and need to be held accountable. Indy Blue has consistently shown that she cares more about winning an argument then about the voice of black women and the issues we face.
And each and everytime someone called her out on it, she went on defense mode and chose to block them instead because she can’t take criticism. @itsindysev you need to apologize and learn how to listen.
