I get why people are angry at the NYT dek on Larry Kramer& #39;s obit. It& #39;s a bad look for them & there wasn& #39;t enough context.
OTOH, it takes nothing away from Larry& #39;s tremendous life to acknowledge the ways he was abusive, not just to power, but to allies and friends, as recounted multiple times in these loving but real remembrances: https://www.thebody.com/article/activists-friends-remember-gay-aids-activist-writer-larry-kramer">https://www.thebody.com/article/a...
And that pattern & his inability to change it had particular impact on younger gay men, as @peterstaley says so well: "To this day, gay men carry the added burden of a society that sexually shames us. Larry played a part in this."
We owe this honesty to him and ourselves and the movement.
