yesterday i was attacked. i was chased down & tackled to the floor in my home town. it was a racially driven attack.
i was walking to a friends house as usual, i had my headphones in just minding my own business. that was until i could faintly here someone shouting. i paused my music and from across the street behind me, a guy was shouting at me & calling me a “dirty paki”.
i didnt take any mind to it & chose to ignore it until he started to follow me. i started to pick up my pace until he was full on sprinting behind me & that is when i started running too.
i was so scared and all i could think of was trying to run as fast as i could. before i could get to the main road i was pushed to the floor and the man was on top of me. i tried my best to kick and throw as many punches as i could, i struggled for what feels like ages.
time was going so slow & the last thing i wanted was to loose my strength. I finally managed to get loose when i kicked him in the chest, i got up and he pushed me into a brick wall. after a few more struggling, i managed to break loose and run to the main road in which -
- i saw a taxi driver & he saw the distress on my face & the blood on my arm and took me home.
the whole time during the attack i was being called a “dirty paki” and a “terrorist”. i shouldnt have to live in fear in my own home town and to be treated any different due to my skin tone & beliefs.
being from a small town, discrimination towards POC is common yet people are not help accountable for their actions. i shouldnt have to leave my house scared because someone doesnt accept my skin tone, my religon or my culture. hate crimes are only getting worse.
the media spews out propaganda and hate against muslims & minorities which installs fear into people, resulting in attacks like this. boris johnson has made multiple offensive remarks towards those of asian decent & muslim beliefs and as a prime minister he is setting -
- an example for the rest of the country. once the government & police start taking discrimination towards minorities and religion seriously, only then we will see a change and people will start to feel safe in their own streets.
i never would’ve expected something like this to happen to me. Allhamdulilah i escaped with minor injures. (the situation is currently being dealt with through the correct bodies)
on a lighter note, i wish everyone had a blessed ramadan & eid mubarak to you all https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="❤️" title="Red heart" aria-label="Emoji: Red heart">
