Tourniquets are tricky, only use them if you know what you& #39;re doing. The European Resuscitation Council 2015 guidelines state that haemostatic dressings and tourniquets should be used when direct pressure is either not possible or ineffective.

If you see someone on the laying down on the ground, here are the basic steps you should take:

1. Make sure the scene is safe, e.g. you& #39;re on a highway or there& #39;s been some sort of accident/attack. Remove the person from any such danger.
2. Tap the person and ask them loudly if they are ok. You want to determine the unresponsiveness of the person. After you& #39;ve done that, yell for help, or if someone else is there already, tell them to call 911.
3. If it& #39;s not obvious why they are unconscious, check and see if they have any medical ID bracelet, it should look something like this:
4. If the victim is lying on their stomach, turn them over onto their back, unless they are vomiting, or have anything coming out of their mouth in large amounts, in which case, lay them on their side so they don& #39;t choke.
5. Check the for the victim& #39;s breathing or any signs of life, look for chest movements. Check for no more than 10 seconds. If there is no breathing or signs of life, begin CPR. (Refer to the earlier videos in this thread)
