So @ScriptsByJames always tweets about the benefits of television as an extended EXPERIENCE rather than a one night power binge and I have the perfect example of why he is totally right. My family and I started season 2 of Dead to Me a few nights ago.... (thread)
NONE of us could succinctly summarize season one to my dad who could not remember what the show was about. We had to dig up a Youtube recap video to refresh our memory.
And yet I& #39;m here and able to recount specific random details from all six seasons of Lost which aired over ten years ago. The difference is that Lost was a part of my life for six years and I binged Dead to Me in one night.
The night of the Lost series finale I watched hours of programming before the two hour finale and the interviews with the cast after the episode was over. HOURS. And each minute felt exciting because I knew all of the hardcore fans were watching and FEELING this with me.
Dumping every episode of a great show out at once creates a flash in the pan. It& #39;s instant gratification, but the buzz and excitement are short-lived. That feeling of waiting a week and consuming/dissecting the show episode by episode for the next episode are unparelled.
