I& #39;ve noticed that almost no one turns their head though. Most people only use mirrors. I& #39;ve definitely avoided accidents by turning my head and looking with my eyes. If you are maintaining safe distance from cars in front of you it& #39;s not unsafe to do.

Now that new cars have sensors to detect cars in the neighboring lane I know I& #39;m going to look like an anachronism when I turn my head but old habits die hard.
