ways to hold hands: a touch-starved thread by nymi
1. the most common way: cupping palms. person 1 reaches behind person 2& #39;s arm and cups their palm against theirs, so their hands are like the criss cross pattern on cherry pies except just one criss cross. this is the go-to for new couples or just close friends
2. actual criss cross, but of the fingies: you gotta have the courage to interlace your fingers between the other person& #39;s, where the palms are touching. more intimate so probably best with people you& #39;re closer to
3. criss cross but not criss cross: basically like the last one but it& #39;s like spooning with your hands. the big spoon hand spoons the little spoon hand by pressing the palm against the knuckles. best if big spoon hand& #39;s fingers can fit between hand 2& #39;s, where they can grip+
4. as opposed to cupping palms, hand 1 holds just hand 2& #39;s fingers, excluding the thumb. hand 1& #39;s thumb can be held in the holdee& #39;s palm (fingers wrapping around their thumb? even better)
5. messy: most common among people who are more comfortable with each other. can be a combination of any type of hand-holding, but may also have stray fingers or a randomized placement of them. cute and lazy
6. placing on top: if someone& #39;s in emotional distress and needs just a little bit of reassurance and their hand is just sitting there out in the open, put your hand on top. awkward if you don& #39;t know the person well, but sweet. rub thumb on the back of their hand for more intimacy
7. permission: shyly reaching over, asking to hold hands by reaching slightly for the thumb or forefinger. usually ends up in a nerve-wracking yet low-effort version of any other types of hand-holding, like cupping just a little or only holding one or two fingers. weak but cute
8. the charmer: holding up one or both of person 2& #39;s hands to around chest height. their entire hand or just the fingers should rest on the inside of person 1& #39;s hand. better effect if 1& #39;s thumbs are also holding the hands in place
9. goofy: usually done upright and vertically. person 1& #39;s palm and fingers are holding the other person& #39;s fingers, but to where the tips of person 2& #39;s fingers are in 1& #39;s palms. person 1& #39;s wrist area will most likely be covered by 2& #39;s palm and thumb. very effective if 2& #39;s fingers+
are also between 1& #39;s. this one was hard to explain im sorry
10. weirdest way, but a respectable flex. 1 and 2& #39;s hands are directly across from one another& #39;s and their fingers intertwine, but don& #39;t go past the knuckles. the hands are more held together by the thumbs since the fingers are stuck at the top away from the palms
end of thread, i would say happy hand-holding but we& #39;re in isolation rn lmao
